Paul Kooiker: Room Service "Central to Kooiker's ongoing photographic project has been the location and examination of the female body in a variety of situations. This production captures cropped and grainy photographs of naked and scantily clad women, or parts thereof, against the backdrop of books and bookcases. This book was printed in Japanese as well as English, only the English edition is available from photo-eye."—the publisher Text: Photo-eye newsletter Image: http://www.photoeye.com/BookteaseLight/bookteaselight.cfm?catalog=ib001 Permalink | Leave a comment »

Woman by The Doors Colorado Model Shuandra V As I ruthlessly rummage through the gourds and gourds of images that the ∆ DOLLEN group has amassed in the last year or so, I am putting all friendships, prejudices and statuses of the submitter(s) aside. The results of this new standard are more than half of the images being removed from the ∆ DOLLEN group. Not becuase they suck or because they are suddenly not worthy.. but in the name of quality over quantity. A curated collection of the best of what Flickr and the Flickers have to offer in the arena of fashion, glamour, creativity and of course... beautiful women. The similar "post anything" are a dime a dozen and I think it's time to stand out from the crowd a bit. I'd encourage you to do the same. In the process I am rediscovering some really great talent as I do my currating. For those of you familiar with the ∆ DOLLEN Group keep submitting away. I personally scour each image before letting it into the party and by doing so I created a workflow that allows me to leave more and comments and more in particular more meaningful comments. Here are some of the rock stars that I have been rediscovering:AndyQuarius Pollo Olivera Matt Dukeand a reminder... if you don't want your images shared/blogged/linked too be sure to mind yoru settings in Flickr. I've been known to brag on the images submitted to my various groups on www.daftphoto.com, www.theflickreffect.com .... and a few others. I know some of you are tight about this stuff... so nip it at the bud if it's not your thing.

crescentsi has added a photo to the pool:xstockx.deviantart.comThe flat canvas, the resolution of perspective, abstraction and then digital art...I remember reading art theory about artists wrestling with the problem of a flat canvas, and how best to represent reality, conceptually or literally. The creative problems artists try to resolve today are more photographic, synthetic or cinematic. Similarly, Facebook and similar "live" web applications allow all users to be artists and wrestle with the problem of a flat canvas and a flat personality, a la the Romantic view of an artist. Indeed the fascination with fame, or recognition via technological devices, doesn't only reveal the demise of the ruling classes (in conventional forms) it also brings with it the difficulties that artists have always faced; anonymity and isolation. Indeed,we all have to say "who the f*ck are you?" And, consequently, "who am I?"The idea behind Western, societal functioning is that women and femininity heal its problems, while men and masculinity "do" and "does". Feminism is inoperable in Western society, because the feminine is valueless until healing or nurturing is required, and then it takes second place to support objectivity and pragmatism. However, this suppression of the value of women and feminity leads to a state of "female worship", where men overly respect women in situations that are deemed "feminine". This state is an attempt to counter the devaluing of women and femininity. The word "goddess" frequently applied to attractive women and the representations of women in the media can exhault women to the status of a deity or quaisi-deity. The arts are "female-friendly" and "femininity-friendly", calling on "feminine" attributes such as intuition, healing, emotion, common-sense and beauty. On a more societal scale, the West cries out for a more holistic approach to both intellectual and practical issues, balancing subjectivity with objectivity, reason with intuition, doing with reflection and compassion with competition. Indeed, both sexes are capable of the above, to varying degrees, therefore women are not the answer to the problems of the West, but a greater respect of femininity. This, of course, would lead to a greater respect for women, rather than political correctness that props up the status quo and deflects the publics attention from the real issues that we face.Simon
