An inspired and highly intuitive artist, Zinaida Serebriakova is revered above all for her deeply sensual nudes described by Alexandre Benois as: the chief glory of her work, there is nothing quite like them. In these studies of the female body, we find not merely a natural quality but a familiar quality from literature and music. (A. Benois, 'Artistic Letters: The Union Exhibition', Rech, 13 March 1910). One of the great painters of women of the 20th century, Serebriakova's work is distinguished by an alluring combination of warm femininity and technical excellence. The natural talent coursing through her veins (her father was the sculptor Evgenii Lanceray; her uncle the painter Alexandre Benois) was refined and developed by the extensive formal training she received first under Repin's direction in Talashkino and subsequently with the portraitist Osip Braz at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. If the direct gaze of her models imbues her work with an air of modernity, Serebriakova's nudes primarily possess a timeless classicism. There are no allusions to the political instability and economic depression of her native land. Rather, she remained concerned with the personal and the local. On her return from Paris in 1906 she expressed no desire to join her uncle in St Petersburg, epicentre of the Russian artistic scene, soon to witness the foundation of the Ballet Russes. Instead she returned to the family estate in the province of Tver and continued to paint. She did not however escape unscathed: in 1916 the Council of the Academy of Arts had decided to grant Serebriakova, alongside three others, the title of Academician. Sadly with the outbreak of revolution in February 1917, the scheduled session of the Academy did not take place and Serebriakova and her companions were denied the opportunity to become the first women in history to be awarded this distinction. Serebriakova proved equally unsusceptible to the lure of extensive experimentation embraced by so many of her female contemporaries, among them Goncharova and Popova. Her inspiration lay instead with the Renaissance masters and certain Russian artists including the early 19th century painter Alexei Venetsianov. Once she was living in Paris, Serebriakova would frequent the Louvre, even daily at points, making studies of her favourite paintings by artists such as Titian and Rubens. She persisted in producing less commercial, yet beautifully executed work to her own economic detriment to the point that by 1938 she had stopped exhibiting, writing to her daughter in 1955 I no longer even try to show my things to a blind public (Zinaida Serebriakova, letter to Tatiana Serebriakova, November 22 1955, quoted in A. L. Hilton, 'Zinaida Serebriakova', Woman's Art Journal, vol. 3, no. 2, p. 35). It has been suggested that the sitter for this work may be Mlle. Marie Evreinoff, a friend of the family who regularly posed for Serebriakova. Executed in 1930, the 1920s and 1930s are often considered the artist's most erotic period. The viewer is at the feet of the model, her diagonal positioning is inviting and her expression is peaceful yet playful. The perspective and the confidence of her line exaggerates the width of the sitter's hips emphasizing her slim waist and delicate facial features. As art historian Alison Hilton suggests, her works are 'composed to achieve a balance of gesture and repose [the arms folded behind her head here versus the languor of her body], and of the incidental and the stable [the unstructured flow of her robe into the background]' ('Zinaida Serebriakova', Woman's Art Journal, vol. 3, no. 2, p. 34). The influence of the Italian Renaissance painters with their heady emphasis on the beauty of form is evident while the draped textiles and beautifully rendered folds recall classical sculpture. Her breasts and the contours of her stomach are captured realistically while the fabric ensures the composition is balanced and the light even. Perhaps, as the artist's youngest daughter Catherine suggests, the immense beauty of Serebriakova's female nudes should be partly attributed to the pleasure she experienced during their creation: 'The female nude was mother's favourite subject...In Paris her friends would come over to her studio, drink a cup of tea, then they would stay and pose for her. They were not the professional models that you might find in Montparnasse and maybe this is the reason why they are so natural and graceful.' She took my direction well and acted in a professional manner as my beautiful model and was a good looking subject. I captured her in many poses and portraits with my Canon camera. She wore several colorful tanktop shirts and two pairs of blue denim jean shorts that exposed her great, long legs and butt. She also sported a little black dress. Her face and particularly her steel blue eyes are captured in some of my shots on my photostream. I really liked the style of this university student.The location of this photosession was a historical downtown district in a small town. She posed in front of several old walls and some of the walls were painted unique colors that provide a different, creative look to some of my compositions. The girl also posed in a green tanktop and flipflops in front of a wall of ivy and vegetation. Elsewhere, she posed upon the concrete floor of an outdoor stage and on and around railroad tracks and an old, red train caboose. In some of my pictures, Tara is smiling, and she looks serious, though always sexy, in others. An old, rusty fire escape is utilized for some of the pictures, and a bench and picnic table are used in others.The weather was steamy hot, and the sun was shining during most of the stylish, outdoors shoot. I really enjoy the summer months, and this late June afternoon was really enjoyable as was this fashion shoot. Please let me know what you think by commenting on this photo and giving me your feedback. Do you like this picture? If so, why?????One thing I'd like to be is more creative in my portraits. I think this would be improved through different manipulations in the color of my compositions. For example, I could adjust the saturation and exposure and contrast settings through photoshop or Picnic, and I could do more work in black and white. If you can think of an interesting, clever idea for a fun theme, please comment on this picture and tell me your thought because I would love to hear it. Sometimes, I feel worried that my amateur photo shoots are going to fall into a rut as I do roughly the same thing. I would like my photography to evolve into something special with fresh, new energy that people really like. On the other hand, I am still very much new and have pltny to learn. I'm not ashamed of this fact because I am not a professional photographer. I do this as a fun hobby that I would like to take to the next level. Aw jeez, thanks.I’ve kept up this blagging bullshit through full-time work, freelance (read: freedom + poverty) and back again. Queuing images takes only a few minutes each night, and I don’t blog from the office. Posting is fast/easy because of some nerd shit I set up awhile back. Jonny Trunk has compiled a pictorial retrospective of AtomAge, called “Dressing for Pleasure – The Best of AtomAge 1972-1980″.For early devotees of leather, rubber and vinyl fetish wear, AtomAge magazine was the underground bible of the 1970s. Founded, designed and published by the English designer John Sutcliffe as a platform for his extraordinary talents as a manufacturer of weatherproofs for lady pillion riders, it quickly became a rallying point for explorers of every kind of fledgling clothing scene, functioning as both an instruction manual and a mirror.The experimental clothing showcased in its pages, including items made by the readers themselves, transformed a passion for a sexual proclivity into a cult phenomenon. From motorbiking and mask-wearing, to mudlarking and wading worship, AtomAge covered every conceivable variant on and use for fetish wear. The amateur photographs reproduced here reflect a golden age of DIY enthusiasm, before fetish became the industry it is today, and inadvertently depict a suburbia from which dressing for pleasure was a necessary escape.The outrageous costumes found in AtomAge also served as inspiration to a then-new generation of fashion designers such as Vivienne Westwood, and many of these costumes have since been acquired by high-end collections. Compiling the most astonishing imagery from all 32 issues of this now extremely rare and sought after cult magazine, Dressing for Pleasure illustrates not just Sutcliffe’s exceptional designs, but also, through their own photography and writings, the fantasies and desires of the AtomAge followers. Jonny Trunk tells about his first meeting with AtomAge:This book all began on a visit to my old chums Whitaker Malem. Patrick Whitaker and Kier Malem are leather artisans who work in the fashion, art and film business. When not designing costumes for cinematic superheroes like Batman they’re dressing Allen Jones sculptures or making weird chairs or something. Anyway we were having a cup of Mellow Birds and talking about film music when I spied a small A5 magazine on their workbench. I picked it up and was immediately engaged by the simplicity, crudeness, inspired photography and folk arty oddness of the whole thing. The magazine was called AtomAge and within about 30 seconds of seeing it I knew I’d have to investigate it all further. And so I did.Guardian also has an article on John Sutcliffe:The British fetish industry has surprisingly practical beginnings. In 1957, John Sutcliffe, a former aircraft engineer from Hampstead, was taking a girlfriend out for a trip on his motorbike. Syren/Stockroom Gear Fetish Fashion ShowThe rubber and gear pervs were out and seriously kinked up for the 6th annual West Coast Rubber weekend held over Labor Day in Los Angeles.Kicking things off was the new VIP Meat and Greet and Gear Show. The event took over the industrial space next to Syren/Stockroom, who were Platinum sponsors for the rubber weekend. The weekend VIPs nibbled on noshies, enjoyed an open bar and perused kinky artwork from Antebellum Gallery and graphic artist Axel.The centerpiece of the evening was the Gear Show, presented by Syren/Stockroom. Over 10 sexy models were engaged to present the gear. The theme for round 1 was all about play and included wrestlers, bunnies, straightjackets and pony with handler. Round 2 dove deep in to uniforms with all of the models clad in various types of rubber uniforms. They stormed the stage and event space with a trooper mentality and moments later surrounded a mysterious neoprene-encased object that they hoisted to the main stage. When the reveal came, the new Mr West Coast Rubber for 2010 performed his own titleholder chrysalis and emerged to the cheering throng. Mr WCR 2010 is Reid Dalgleish from Vancouver BC who will represent WCR throughout his year and will go on to compete at Mr International Rubber in Chicago in November 2010. First runner up was Chris McFaul, Eagle LA Mr Rubber 2009. The gear fun continued the next day with a Slime Pit at the Eagle LA. A slime pit, for the uninitiated, is a giant rubber tarp laid over foam pads. Apply a judicial amount of Gun Oil silicone lube plus some water and you have instant slipperiness perfect for some sexy wrestling. One warning though….it will wear your butt out!After a clean up and some dinner it was time to head off to the Gear Up dungeon party sponsored by M-S-Leathers and Square Peg Dildos. The event, held in a private dungeon space, is the kinky play heart of the weekend. The main room of the dungeon is converted to a dark and sexy bar space with videos and demos featuring Mr-S-Leather and Square Peg products. Hot! The back area was all about dark room action and the boyz kept the place rocking all night.Sunday was spent chilling under a hot sun at the Rubber Perv Pool Party at a private estate high in the hills overlooking LA. Things got pretty frisky and everyone left happy and full of BBQ burgers and dogs…or some kind of dogs anyway. Later that night the crew met up for the Full Rubber dinner at Casita del Campo restaurant in Silver Lake.Monday was wrap up day with a nice low key beer bust at the Bullet Bar in North Hollywood and a few goodbyes to the unlucky ones who had to travel for work on Monday.2010 was another successful West Coast Rubber! It's been a year and a half, and this was definitely a fun photo session. It's enjoyable to add outside photos to all the indoor studio images I already posted onto my photostream. People have made their requests known to me, and I have listened to them.Emilita is a beautiful brunette model who has a good sense of style. She wears a white tanktop shirt and blue denim jeans cutoff skirt as well as a little pink dress. She has a nice smile and a sexy, great body. It's a pleasure to work with her, as always. I have known her for quite a while and hope to work with her in a different location in the future.The locations for this photo session are the playground, the gazebo, the lake, the river and in front of a brick wall as are several of my other outdoor endevors. PhotoAmateur1 posted a photo: 6/30/2010: I orchestrated a glamour photoshoot with a young blonde woman named Tara. This girl has a nice personality and looks gorgeous. She took my direction well and acted in a professional manner as my beautiful model and was a good looking subject. I captured her in many poses and portraits with my Canon camera. She wore several colorful tanktop shirts and two pairs of blue denim jean shorts that exposed her great, long legs and butt. She also sported a little black dress. Her face and particularly her steel blue eyes are captured in some of my shots on my photostream. I really liked the style of this university student.The location of this photosession was a historical downtown district in a small town. She posed in front of several old walls and some of the walls were painted unique colors that provide a different, creative look to some of my compositions. The girl also posed in a green tanktop and flipflops in front of a wall of ivy and vegetation. Elsewhere, she posed upon the concrete floor of an outdoor stage and on and around railroad tracks and an old, red train caboose. In some of my pictures, Tara is smiling, and she looks serious, though always sexy, in others. An old, rusty fire escape is utilized for some of the pictures, and a bench and picnic table are used in others.The weather was steamy hot, and the sun was shining during most of the stylish, outdoors shoot. I really enjoy the summer months, and this late June afternoon was really enjoyable as was this fashion shoot. Please let me know what you think by commenting on this photo and giving me your feedback. Do you like this picture? If so, why?????One thing I'd like to be is more creative in my portraits. I think this would be improved through different manipulations in the color of my compositions. For example, I could adjust the saturation and exposure and contrast settings through photoshop or Picnic, and I could do more work in black and white. Otherwise, I could develop more elaborate, stylish themes for my photo sessions. If you can think of an interesting, clever idea for a fun theme, please comment on this picture and tell me your thought because I would love to hear it. Sometimes, I feel worried that my amateur photo shoots are going to fall into a rut as I do roughly the same thing. I would like my photography to evolve into something special with fresh, new energy that people really like. On the other hand, I am still very much new and have pltny to learn. I'm not ashamed of this fact because I am not a professional photographer. I do this as a fun hobby that I would like to take to the next level. All in all, she is ready for summer and I particularly like to create new pictures in the summertime.Here, I am struck by her big, gorgeous blue eyes and her long legs and barefoot plus the colorful, summery tanktop and her perfect figure.
